The right skin care treatments can help prevent and reverse the visible signs of ageing. Our treatments focus on rejuvenating and regenerating skin at a deeper level.

Age is just a number, as the popular saying goes. However we often find that it is the number of wrinkles, age spots, and a host of other indicators related to the appearance of skin, that play a role when people try to guess the age of an
individual.

Although the ageing process is inevitable, it is reassuring to know that the right quality of skin care, practiced in a disciplined manner, can help control the visible signs of ageing. Ideally, you would want to refresh your appearance and emerge looking 2 to 3 years younger even as you take firm control of the ageing process as seen in the mirror. As you set out to do so, it can be empowering to understand the inner workings of this process which takes different forms though every decade of life.

Skin ageing takes place at two levels – from the inside and the outside. Scientifically termed as extrinsic and intrinsic ageing, the two work quite differently.

Intrinsic ageing refers to the structural rearrangements going on beneath the surface of your skin, defining the evolution of your facial features over the years. It is determined by your genes and how they regulate the march of time. Extrinsic ageing is driven by external factors which include lifestyle, exposure of the skin to pollutants and UV radiation. The natural movement of skin is yet another major influence. With time, as people tend to get set in their ways, so do facial
expressions.

What causes skin ageing

Let’s see how it all unfolds. Youthful skin is firm, elastic and line-free. The fat in the face helps plump up the cheeks, making them smooth, supple and glowing. With age, however, the skin becomes thin and loses elasticity, causing fine wrinkles which are most noticeable around the eyes and mouth as crow’s feet, smile lines and laugh lines. Facial fat loses volume with age. Wrinkles appear on the forehead and between the brows, and nasolabial folds (between the nose and mouth) become more pronounced. Muscle volume drops as well, resulting in sunken eyes and cheeks. Loss of muscle tone expresses itself as softening of contour around the jawline.

Rejuva Age Control Solutions

While medical science cannot, yet, alter the ageing process, it has given us the tools to help control the visible effects and make a meaningful difference to your quality of life. At Rejuva, our age control solutions focus on four key goals: rebuilding volume, reducing wrinkles, restoring contour, and rejuvenating the skin.

Age-control treatment is as much about techniques and treatments as it is about understanding an individual’s skin. At Rejuva, we have gathered a wealth of insight into how skin works. Applying this knowledge, the region’s largest team of dermatologists works to create specialised approaches, customised to every individual’s skin. We bring together the latest in medical advancements with advanced Rejuva products and technologies to deliver truly effective age-control. How Rejuva Age Control Solutions Work

Rebuilding volume

With time, the face loses fat and volume in many areas. The cheeks, brow and lips are the most noticeable. Cheeks flatten. They also sag, giving rise to nasolabial folds (the folds from the corners of the nose to the mouth), oral commissures (the folds just beneath the corners of the mouth), followed by jowls (the skin that sags beneath the jawline). The area under the eyes begins to appear drawn. Meanwhile, the brow area, just above the eyes, thins out too, leading to a bonier look.

The solution lies, of course, in restoring lost volume with a filler. Hyaluronic acid, a complex sugar found in many tissues, is the filler of choice. As hyaluronic acid happens to be the body’s skin plumper anyway, acceptance comes more naturally as well. In fact this characteristic makes it an ideal choice for contouring.

No two individuals have quite the same volume loss patterns, and each has different needs. At Rejuva we use a varied suite of fillers that help us craft bespoke solutions for every individual, based on a complex set of factors that include the area of the face that needs work and the volume that needs to be rebuilt. Our dermatologists focus their expertise on picking the right filler and injecting just the right dose at the right points to create the desired outcome.

Results last 6 to 12 months, depending on the rate at which the body absorbs the filler. The procedure can, of course, be repeated as required. There’s a longer-term benefit as well. The injections cause a ‘micro-injury’ that stimulates collagen production, so skin ends up looking better than it did before.

Reducing wrinkles

Our facial muscles are constantly in use. We smile, we frown, we raise our eyebrows. We squint at screens all day. Over time, the repetitive contraction of facial muscles, each of which causes the skin to bunch together, makes the expressions set in and form permanent lines.

How do we undo the wrinkles? The solution comes down to reversing the very process that causes them in the first place. And that’s precisely what Botox® does. Invaluable as an anti-ageing solution, Botox® is most commonly used to smooth out crow’s feet, frown lines and horizontal lines in the forehead and neck.

Administered by dermatologists as an injectable solution using a tiny needle, Botox® relaxes tight facial muscles by neutralising their ability to contract. While the clinical safety and efficacy of Botox® has been established beyond doubt, the procedure is as much art as science. The real skill of our dermatologists lies in ensuring just the right touches in the right places, so that natural expressions are maintained.

The results of Botox® are immediately visible, and improve as they settle. The refreshed look lasts for 6 to 8 months, depending on your body chemistry. You could repeat the treatment to retain that youthful look.

Restoring contour

With the passage of time, facial features tend to droop and sag. This is because the skin’s underlying support framework is steadily depleted as collagen production winds down, facial fat decreases and muscle tone slackens. The ageing effect is most apparent on the lower part of the face which loses the firm contour of youth and begins to appear more rectangular in shape.

Recent advances in non-invasive techniques have equipped us to offer an effective new way to restore youthful contour. The technique is called Facelift with Threads, and offers two significant advantages. One. It is less drastic, more gentle than surgery. Two. It actively helps rebuild the supportive structure to restore facial contour from within. As a result, it brings about steady but subtle improvement with time, and reflects on the face as a refreshed look rather than a sudden change.

Absorbable, single-strand medical sutures made from Polidioxanone (PDO), are inserted into the hypodermis layer of skin, wherever a gentle supportive lift is desired. The threads not only lift the face but also stimulate collagen synthesis around the areas of insertion, by activating the body’s own healing mechanism. In a sense, turning back the clock on ageing-related collagen depletion. The procedure leaves no traces as the pin-point incisions and the sutures are invisible.

There are several types of threads such as SilhouetteSoft Threads and Barb Threads at hand, in addition to the smooth or suspension threads. The Rejuva dermatologist will make a recommendation based on an assessment of your goals and requirements.

Rejuvenating skin

As age-related blemishes and skin laxity set in, it is important to help the skin fight back. At Rejuva we tap into the body’s own rejuvenation potential, to create long-lasting repair, noticeable damage reversal and consistent regeneration.

Our MesoGlow solution activates repair by delivering a ‘medicinal bullet’ reinforced with vitamins, directly into the mesoderm – the middle layer of skin. The skin then works its magic by healing the specifically targeted areas. Its cells get metabolically active, repairing connective tissue, stimulating natural collagen production and accelerating elastin generation.

Meanwhile on the surface, it’s time for change. CO2 laser therapy skims away damaged skin in targeted spots, layer by layer. While helping fresh new skin emerge, it also begins to reactivate collagen production. The Rejuva dermatologist may give collagen production a further fillip with E-Matrix, which directs energy beneath the surface of the skin to work at a deeper level. Operating in tandem, these technologies deal with loose, wrinkled skin and activate the remodelling and restructuring of the supportive padding below.

If your skin can be induced to heal itself and regenerate consistently, the therapy will have had truly life-changing results. Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy activates growth factors found within your blood, to accelerate tissue regeneration. In a sense, your own body is recruited as an ally, and your skin becomes an active participant in the rejuvenation process.

What you can look forward to

Ageing effects begin deep down at the DNA level. These molecular and physiological changes can take years to produce the visible changes associated with ageing. This delay is the reason why many people do not focus on age control until much of the damage is well on its way. That’s where you come in, taking a purposeful decision to work with your dermatologist. It’s important to start early. The key concept is control. Rather than take a stressful, reactive approach to fight ageing, you’d want to take charge.

Aftercare is just as important. Your dermatologist will recommend a set of advanced Rejuva skin care products that draw upon advancements, such as stem-cell therapy for instance, to extend the effect of clinical expertise. All you need to do is be committed to staying the course and make sure you follow a regular maintenance regime.
